Using my moms upgrade to get an iphone upgrade?

Yes, you can do that, just swap SIM cards after you leave the store. She gets the card from the new phone into her old phone and you use your old sim card from your broken phone and put it in the upgrade…. But your mom will have an iphone plan, so she better have an iphone (what you refer to as “old phone”)
